"Play Dead, Fido! Oh Wait... You are dead..."

I've seen my share of horror films and among them my favorite sub-genre would have to be that of the zombies! Among these films there is another sub-genre I love even more than just zombies. This takes my two all-time favorites and places them side by side in what me and my brother like to call a "Zombedy" Otherwise known as the zombie comedy. I'm only speaking on one of these films today the rest we will save for later.

Fido, A simple name for a simple movie. Yet this movie has broken as much ground as even George A. Romero had in his film. Taking what we know of zombie movies and twisting it and distorting not only how we see zombies but even going back in time to show us a different history.

This gives us an alternate look into the 1950's, they consider it an alternate universe. In which radiation from space has contaminated the earth and causes the dead and those who die post contamination are turned into zombies. This was an odd turn of events in my mind I would have assumed it would be a different take on the second world war. This radiation sparked the creation of a company called Zomcon. This company invents a collar with a remote that controls the zombies actions causing them to become more like pets or servants than actual zombies.

Love at First Fright!

Remembering back to when I was younger there was one movie of the macabre, as I like to call them, that sticks out above all the rest. Growing up watching and enjoying as many horror films as I have in my 20 years it's hard to name one that ever scared me. I can't quite recall the age I was when I watched this film late one night with my brother, but I'll always remember the trouble I had sleeping that night. How I screamed for my parents as my nightmares had awoken me.

As I look Back Upon this Movie now I can't understand what made me so afraid, but I'm sure being young and watching a horror film with your older brother certainly can't help. This movie might not be in such high standards with the younger movie crowd as it isn't full of special effects. It will however be held in high regards as a classic by myself and those of the real horror fiends. "The People under the stairs" will always be very high on my list of classics!

Intro to the Macabre

Horror as a genre is possibly the most fascinating to me. Whether it be a story I've read or a movie I've watched. Being afraid is coming close to something you wish to never experience. Yet this experience of being close that of death through scary movies is what keeps us coming back.

My brother is such a horror movie buff that I grew up on them, From movies like Night of the Living Dead down to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These movies not only excite me through the pure essence of fear but also through memories as a family. One of such memories is that of my uncle hiding out in the woods, coming from a rural family we lived in a primarily forested area, with a chainsaw waiting to scare us one late night after we had finished watching Leather Face do his best.

So here I am to tell you about my favorite of all the movie genres, that of the Macabre. I'm going to talk about my favorite details of horror films in general and help you choose one that will excite you and hopefully bring some of these scary yet exciting memories.
